Karen grew up in the low country of South Carolina and graduated from high school and college in Savannah Georgia. She developed her love for design at an early age, but chose the path as a pediatric registered nurse before going back to design school at the age of 33.
In 2007, she decided to pursue her dream of opening a small interior design and lighting retail store to sell the beautiful things that her clients could use in their homes. She quickly grew and moved Elements of Design in 2010 to its current location at 62 East Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach, FL.
2011 Brought a new opportunity of purchasing an existing local lighting company, Cates Lighting. Karen looked at this opportunity as a wonderful addition to offer her clients and the community. She learned the fundamentals of lighting and became a Certified Lighting Specialist.
Retail and interior design have always been Karen’s passion, which led her to expand the business to her second location at One Daytona in Daytona Beach, FL.
Karen is married to her biggest supporter, Nick Holmay, and is the Mother to five beautiful children.
